Welcome to Northern Highlands Junior Wrestling (NHJW). The aim and purpose of the NHJW is to provide a fun and exciting atmosphere in which the youth of Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Saddle River, & Upper Saddle River can learn and participate in the great sport of wrestling.

During the season, your athlete will learn a great deal about the sport of wrestling. As a result of your child’s involvement with wrestling and coaches  reinforcement, wrestlers learn the invaluable lessons of self-discipline, mental and physical strength, good sportsmanship and respect.

They will learn how to maintain balance, how to set-up, execute, and finish moves and learn techniques and strategies that will help them compete in matches.

Our coaches are very dedicated to your child and the sport of wrestling. It is our belief that with proper training and a little desire, your child can become a champion wrestler and furthermore, successful in life.

All this being said, wrestling is a demanding sport. Commitment and discipline are the key components to becoming a good wrestler and a better person. We expect exemplary behavior in practice and at matches.

We are very excited about the upcoming season and look forward to maintaining the winning tradition that our wrestling team has achieved over the years. The NHJW is for children grades K-8 who reside in Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Saddle River and Upper Saddle River. Wrestlers will be grouped by age, weight and experience. Practices will be held in the Northern Highlands HS wrestling gym 2 days per week with matches and tournaments held on the weekends.

The 2022 Season


until further notice: (all days and times subject to change)


First practice is tentatively November 29th, 2022.

Season ends with a Team Award Dinner in March.

Times subject to change and we may add Mondays for a 3 day a week program

GROUP 1 PRACTICE IS  5:50p-6:50p on TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS (for K-4th* grade) – some may move up based on level and attitude

GROUP 2 PRACTICE IS 7:00p-8:15p on TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS (4th*-8th grade) some may move down based on level and attitude

There are tournaments Saturdays and Sundays all the time…our team/league matches begin January 7th and are every Saturday for 5-6 weeks.

*some 2nd-3rd-4th Grade Wrestlers will be in Group 1 while some may be in Group 2…Coach Gallo will let you know.
